You can always trust Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible franchise for some fantastic action set pieces, and the new trailer for the next film, subtitled Fallout gives us a taste of what’s in store. We see Cruise jumping out of planes and nearly getting squashed by a runaway helicopter fuselage. Not in the same sequence, that would be too easy, those are two different parts of the movie. Check out the new trailer for Mission: Impossible Fallout below.

The new full trailer gives us a bit more detail and specifics about the plot of Mission: Impossible Fallout. We see a conflict between two sides of the U.S. government regarding how to handle an escaped prisoner. As Angela Bassett‘s character puts it, it becomes a question of using a scalpel or a hammer to deal with the problem. Ethan Hunt and the IMF team are the scalpels, Henry Cavill, a CIA trained assassin, is the hammer. It seems that in addition to these two sides working toward the same goal, they’ll also be working directly against each other, as Hunt and company decide to take matters into their own hands.

It’s sort of amazing that Tom Cruise survived this movie with only a broken ankle. We see the shot of jumping from one building to another, which resulted in the injury that delayed production, but we also see him skydiving, crash a motorcycle, and nearly get run over by a crashed helicopter rolling down a hill. In fact, in that last one, it looks like he might actually get hit, but the new trailer ends before we see the result.

Although, if we’re looking for what the “big stunt” of Mission: Impossible Fallout could be, it may actually be the brief shot in the trailer that appears to show Ethan Hunt hanging from a helicopter in the middle of the air. Based on the reputation that both the M:I films have, and that Tom Cruise has in them, it’s virtually guaranteed that’s really him holding on to a cargo rope hanging from the chopper.

The truth is, however, that there are so many big moments in Mission: Impossible Fallout that there likely isn’t a single stunt that’s bigger than the rest. The entire movie looks like one big stunt after another. It’s not that surprising, the intense and practical action sequences are a large part of the reason that the Mission: Impossible franchise has remained popular for over two decades. It’s one series of action movies that even those that criticise the shift toward blockbuster franchise filmmaking seem to respect. Mission: Impossible Fallout hits theaters in July.
